For Israel and the World
Four Biblical Reflections on the Birth of the Messiah
The child of Bethlehem, the son of Mary, came to us as teh long-awaited Messiah of Israel. Now he is everywhere known as Jesus Christ, that is, Jesus the Messiah. As Christians, we acclaim him as the very Son of God and the Savior of the world, but we do well to examine and ponder his Messianic role more deeply. How was he understood to the pious Jews who longed for his coming? How was he understood by the apostles who proclaimed him to all the world after his Resurrection?
