Summer 2007 Update

St. Irenaeus Plans for a Great Summer!

Schedule of Times, Places and Events

The St. Irenaeus community launches its summer program on Tuesday, June 12th – full throttle. Most events listed here take place at the St. Irenaeus Center at 542 Blossom Rd (1½ blocks from Winton and across from the Artisan Works), but there is much more happening at the Center and throughout the community.

Classes and workshops generally ask $5 per session, except for Greek; and no charge is required for students, again except for Greek. Beside these options there many other opportunities for prayer, fellowship, and learning in this community of orthodox faith.

For more information about any of these events, email us at mail@siministries.org .

Beginning the Week of June 12th:

The Journeyman Program – from June through August. This year’s subject is a critical and unvarnished survey of Church history. The program has always been weighted toward training young men, but it is open to interested adults of all ages, both men and women. Note: sessions generally involve rigorous questioning and exchange of opinions.

  • On Tuesday evenings, beginning June 12th
  • 7:15 PM – 9:00, at the St. Irenaeus Center.

Workshops on How to Study the Bible – will look at approaches to a more effective, personal Bible study and the resources available, with practical exercise on some the great passages on Holy Writ. People have been asking for this for some time.

  • On Wednesday evenings, begins June 13th 7:15 pm – St. Irenaeus Center.

Later we will offer Workshops on Evangelization, Discipleship and the New Catholic Community. These sessions will begin mid-Summer, mid-July to mid-August.

Ongoing events:

St. Titus Fellowship for collegians and other young adults – we meet for study of the faith, serious discussion and Christian fellowship. Meeting at the Center, the group is solidly rooted in an orthodox Catholic perspective – with challenging and lively exchange. There’s no charge. For more info call the Center office at 288-1618.

  • On Friday evenings, doors open at 7:00; begin in earnest around 7:40.

Pro Life Witness – a peaceful prayer witness every Friday at 3:00 pm (the hour of mercy) to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Sorrowful Mysteries in front of the “clinic” at 2020 S. Clinton Ave.

Woman’s Fellowship – meeting monthly, generally on the third Saturday in the evenings at the St. Irenaeus Center (but it’s good to check). This group was launched to encourage younger women.

Summer Review of Ancient Greek with exercises drawn from study of the Greek New Testament.

  • From 1:30 – 3:30 PM, Saturday afternoons, beginning June 16th at the St. Irenaeus Center.
  • $8.00 per session.

Other Special Events

St. Irenaeus Mass – most likely in the evening of his feast day, Thursday, June 28th with fellowship social following. This is always a great event with special music, reverent liturgy and pointed prayers. More details will soon be forthcoming.

The August St. Irenaeus Single Day Retreat – August 18th, topic yet to be determined.

Also, watch for a possible St. Irenaeus Book Sale and Open House – some July weekend.
